In-Home Haircuts for Elderly Parents: What to Expect

If a parent or family member has stopped going to the barbershop — because of a fall risk, a wheelchair, dementia, or just the exhaustion of the trip itself — arranging a haircut at home usually comes down to one email, not a research project.

We work with families and facility staff directly. The haircut happens wherever the person already is: a recliner in the living room, a wheelchair, or a hospital bed. Nobody needs to be moved or transferred. We bring a portable setup that fits into a bedroom or a shared facility room just as easily as a garage, and work at a slower, calmer pace than a standard shop visit — no clippers buzzing the second you sit down, no rush.

Before the visit, it helps to mention anything relevant: limited mobility, sensitivity to noise or touch, dementia-related anxiety around unfamiliar people, or a preferred simple style rather than anything trendy. None of this is unusual — it's most of what we do.

For residents of nursing homes or assisted living communities, group visits can be arranged in a single trip, which is usually easier on staff schedules than booking residents one at a time on different days.

Pricing is the same flat $50 per haircut whether it's at a private home or a facility, with group rates available on request. The easiest way to set it up is an email with the address, any mobility notes, and a rough idea of timing — we work around the person's schedule, not the other way around.
